Edward Vincent "Ed" Sullivan was born in Harlem, New York City, New York. He was an American television personality, screenwriter, sports and entertainment reporter, and syndicated columnist for the New York Daily News. He is principally remembered as the creator and host of the television variety program The Toast of the Town. He was a broadcasting pioneer at many levels during television's infancy. In 1996 Sullivan was ranked No. 50 on TV Guide's "50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time".
