Hugh Leonard was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was an Irish playwright, screenwriter, novelist, essayist and newspaper columnist. He wrote nearly 30 full-length plays, 10 one-act plays, three volumes of essays, three novels, and numerous screenplays and teleplays. He worked as a civil servant. He educated at Presentation College, Glasthule. He wrote several plays include: A Leap in the Dark, Madigan's Lock, The Passion of Peter Ginty, Stephen D, The Poker Session, The Saints Go Cycling In, Da, Summer, Suburb of Babylon, Some of My Best Friends Are Husbands, Liam Liar, A Life, Moving, The Mask of Moriarty, and Love in the Title. His autobiographical play “Da” won four Tony Awards in 1978. He wrote several novels include: Parnell and the Englishwoman, A Wild People, and Fillums. He wrote several films include: Interlude, Great Catherine, Percy, Our Miss Fred, Da, and Widows' Peak.
