Frances Brooke was born in Claypole, Lincolnshire, England. She was an English novelist, poet, and playwright. She wrote several novels include: The History of Lady Julia Mandeville, The History of Emily Montague, The excursion, and Manners: A Novel. In 1756 she published a number of poems and a play, Virginia, which was never produced. Her most successful opera, Rosina, continues to be of interest.
