Craig Julian Stevens was born in Sydney, New South Wales. He is an Australian former freestyle swimmer specialising in the 400, 800 and 1500-metre freestyle events. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. He was the bronze medallist in the 1500-metre freestyle event at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, but he narrowly missed out on a medal in the 400-metre freestyle, finishing 4th. In 2004, Stevens made his Olympic Games debut at Athens. There, he won silver as part of the Australian 4x200-metre relay team and also made the final in the 1500-metre.
