Claire Holden Rothman was born in Montreal, Quebec. She is a Canadian novelist, short story writer and translator. She has published two novels and two short story collections. Her first novel, The Heart Specialist, was a longlisted nominee for the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2009,[2] and her second, My October, was a longlisted nominee for the same prize in 2014. She won the John Glassco Translation Prize in 1994 for The Influence of a Book, her 1993 translation of Phillipe-Ignace François Aubert de Gaspé's 1837 novel L'influence d'un livre.
