David Ross "Dave" Obey was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was the United States Representative for Wisconsin's 7th congressional district from 1969 to 2011. He is a member of the Democratic Party, and served as Chairman of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations from 1994 to 1995 and again from 2007 to 2011. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1963 and served there until 1969.
