Gerald Francis Priestland was born in Berkhamsted, England. He was a British journalist. He was educated at Charterhouse and New College, Oxford. He began his work at the BBC with a six-month spell writing obituary pieces for broadcast news. He eventually became a foreign correspondent for the BBC, covering politics in America.
