Irène Némirovsky was born in Kiev, Ukraine. She was a Ukrainian novelist and writer. She lived more than half her life in France and wrote in French, but was denied French citizenship. She graduated in Letters from the Sorbonne in 1926. Arrested as a Jew under the racial laws- which did not take into account her conversion to Roman Catholicism. In 1926, she married Michel Epstein, a banker, and had two daughters: Denise and Élisabeth. She wrote several books include: David Golder(novel), Le Bal( novella), The Wine of Solitude(novel), Fire in the Blood, The Fires of Autumn, The Dogs and the Wolves, The Courilof Affair, The Misunderstanding, Jezebel(novel) and Suite Française(novel).
