Carl Sandburg was born in Galesburg, Illinois. He was an American poet, writer, and journalist. who won three Pulitzer Prizes, two for his poetry and one for his biography of Abraham Lincoln. President Lyndon B. Johnson observed that "Carl Sandburg was more than the voice of America, more than the poet of its strength and genius. He was America." He began his writing career as a journalist for the Chicago Daily News. Later he wrote poetry, history, biographies, novels, children's literature, and film reviews.
