John Clellon Holmes was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA. He was an American author, novelist, poet and professor. He studied at The New School for Social Research. He wrote several books include: Go (novel), The Horn (novel), The Philosophy of the Beat Generation, Nothing More to Declare (novel), The Bowling Green Poems, Death Drag (poems), Visitor, Gone in October, Displaced Person (essays), Representative Men (essays), Passionate Opinions (essays), Dire Coasts (Poems), and Night Music (Poems). Later in life, he taught at the University of Arkansas, lectured at Yale and gave workshops at Brown University.
