Gordon Harold Smith was born in Pendleton, Oregon, USA. He is an American politician and businessman. He earned a BS degree in History from Brigham Young University in 1976. He earned a JD degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1979. He moved back to Oregon in the 1980s to become director of the family owned Smith Frozen Foods company in Weston, Oregon. He was elected to the Oregon State Senate in 1992, and became president of the Oregon State Senate in 1995. A Republican, he served two terms in the US Senate(1997-2009). On September 18, 2009, he was appointed President of the National Association of Broadcasters. He wrote a book entitled Remembering Garrett: One Family’s Battle with a Child’s Depression.
