George Harold Sisler was born in Manchester, Ohio, USA. He was an American professional baseball player for 15 seasons, primarily as first baseman with the St. Louis Browns. From 1920 until 2004, he held the Major League Baseball record for most hits in a single season, until it was broken by Ichiro Suzuki. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. In 1999 editors at The Sporting News named him 33rd on their list of "Baseball's 100 Greatest Players." He played college baseball for the University of Michigan and he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
