Although, I am proud of all my Symphonies as they all have something special to say, my particular favourite is the Fifth. As the great Mahler expert Donald Mitchell said that if Mahler had written another Symphony, it would have been my Fifth!

Malcolm Henry Arnold was an outstanding composer of deeply serious music of all kinds. Nine symphonies, more ballets commissioned by the Royal Ballet than any other composer, many concertos,usually written for close friends, over 100 film scores, and a huge quantity of brilliant chamber music. His particular talent is to write for every instrument's particular characteristics and range.
