John Metcalf was born in Carlisle, England. He is an English-born Canadian writer, editor, novelist, essayist and critic. He earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts and a Certificate in Education from the University of Bristol. He was Senior Editor at the Porcupine’s Quill until 2005, and is now Fiction Editor at Biblioasis. He has written several books include: The Lady Who Sold Furniture (novella), Going Down Slow (novel), The Teeth of My Father (collection of short stories), Girl in Gingham (collection of two novellas), General Ludd (novel), Kicking Against the Pricks (collection of eight essays), Adult Entertainment, An Aesthetic Underground: A Literary Memoir, Forde Abroad, Standing Stones, and The Museum at the End of the World.
