Jean de Brunhoff was born in Paris, France. He was a French writer and illustrator remembered for creating the Babar books, the first of which appeared in 1931. He studied painting at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. In 1924 he married Cécile Sabouraud, a talented pianist. He wrote several books include: The Story of Babar, the Little Elephant, Le Roi Babar, Babar the King(with Laurent de Brunhoff), Babar and Father Christmas, Classic Tales of Babar, Babar kiraly, and All about Babar.
