Howard William Cosell was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. He was an American sports journalist. In 1993, TV Guide named Howard Cosell The All-Time Best Sportscaster in its issue celebrating 40 years of television. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from New York University. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1941, but when the U.S. entered World War II, he entered the United States Army Transportation Corps, where he was promoted to the rank of major. He left the service in 1945. After the war, he began practicing law in Manhattan, primarily union law.
