John James Conyers Jr. was born in Michigan, USA. He is an American Democratic Party politician. He earned a BA degree from Wayne State University in 1957. He earned an LLB degree from Wayne State Law School in 1958. He served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 13th congressional district from 1965 to 2017. He served as Chair of the House Oversight Committee, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and Dean of the United States House of Representatives. After serving in the Korean War, he became active in the civil rights movement. He was awarded combat and merit citations. In 2007, he was awarded the Spingarn Medal from the NAACP. He married Monica Ann Esters in 1990. They have two sons.
