Henry Alexander Wise was born in Drummondtown, Virginia, USA. He was an American politician, lawyer and soldier. He was a U.S. Representative and Governor of Virginia, and US Minister to Brazil. During the American Civil War, he was a Major General in the Confederate States Army. He graduated from Washington College in 1825. After attending Henry St. George Tucker's Winchester Law School, Wise was admitted to the bar in 1828. He was the father of U.S. Representatives Richard Alsop Wise and John Sergeant Wise.
