Frances Willard Quotes

Frances Elizabeth Caroline Willard was born in Churchville, near Rochester, New York, USA. She was an American educator, temperance reformer, writer, and women's suffragist. Her influence was instrumental in the passage of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution. She became the national president of Woman's Christian Temperance Union in 1879, and remained president for 19 years. She developed the slogan "Do everything" for the women of the WCTU. After graduating from the Northwestern Female College, she held various teaching positions and was appointed President of the new Evanston College for Ladies in 1871. She was the first Dean of Women at Northwestern University. She wrote several books include: How I learned to ride the bicycle, Glimpses of fifty years, A wheel within a wheel, A classic town, Woman in the pulpit, and Writing out my heart.
