I think if you look at the themes that are presented in the film, some are inherently social, and I think that any film which deals with the family is dealing with the smallest social unit in our society – and in a sense it is a question of scope.

Atom Egoyan was born Atom Yeghoyan in Cairo, Egypt. He is a critically acclaimed Canadian stage director and film director. Egoyan made his career breakthrough with Exotica. His family moved to Canada when he was two years old. His most critically acclaimed film is The Sweet Hereafter, and his biggest commercial success is Chloe. Egoyan has been nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, both for The Sweet Hereafter.
