Ernst Kaltenbrunner was born in Ried im Innkreis, Austria. He was an Austrian-born German soldier, lawyer, and politician. He joined the Austrian Nazi Party in 1932 and worked closely with Arthur Seyss-Inquart and Adolf Eichmann. An Obergruppenführer in the Schutzstaffel, between January 1943 and May 1945 he held the offices of Chief of the Reich Main Security Office; RSHA, and President of the International Criminal Police Commission, which in 1956 became Interpol. He was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity and executed. He was educated at the Realgymnasium in Linz and obtained his doctorate degree in law at Graz University in 1926.
