Franz Kafka was born in Prague, Austria-Hungary. He was an Austrian novelist, lawyer, insurance agent, and short story writer. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Law on 18 July 1906 and performed an obligatory year of unpaid service as law clerk for the civil and criminal courts. He was employed with an insurance company, forcing him to relegate writing to his spare time. He wrote several novels include: The Trial, The Castle, and America.
