Francois Rabelais was born in Chinon, France. He was a major French Renaissance writer, physician, and Renaissance humanist. He has historically been regarded as a writer of fantasy, satire, the grotesque, bawdy jokes and songs. His best known work is Gargantua and Pantagruel.
