Edward Young was born in Upham, near Winchester, UK. He was an English poet, best remembered for Night-Thoughts. He was educated at Winchester College, and matriculated in 1702 at New College, Oxford. As a dramatist, Young lacked a theatrical sense, and his plays are rarely performed. Of them, The Revenge is generally thought to be the best.
