John Wesley was born in Epworth, Lincolnshire, England. He was an English clergyman, evangelist and theologian. He is recognized as the founder of Methodism. A contemporary of William Wilberforce, he was a strong voice opposing slavery in England and the United States. His influence upon modern Christianity can be seen by the large number of Methodist organizations in the Wesleyan tradition all over the world. He studied at Charterhouse School and Christ Church, Oxford. He was elected a fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford in 1726 and ordained as an Anglican priest two years later. He wrote several books include: Predestination calmly considered, The works of John Wesley, A plain account of Christian perfection, Thoughts Upon Slavery, The Essential Works of John Wesley, How to Pray, John Wesley's Sermons, The Holy Spirit and Power, and Complete Bible Commentary.
