John Strachey was born in Guildford, Surrey, England. He was an English politician. He studied at Eton College and Magdalen College, Oxford. He joined The Spectator in 1922. In 1923, he began writing for the ILP New Leader. In 1929, he was elected MP for Birmingham Aston. He was again elected to Parliament in 1945. He was appointed Minister of Food in May 1946. He was elected as Labour MP for Dundee West in February 1950. He served as Secretary of State for War from 1950-1951. He wrote several books include: Revolution by Reason, The menace of fascism, The Coming Struggle for Power, The Theory And Practice Of Socialism, The Nature of Capitalist Crisis, A Faith To Fight For, Contemporary Capitalism, The end of empire, and On the prevention of war.
