John Michael Scalzi II was born in Fairfield, California, USA. He is an American science fiction novelist. He earned a BA degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago in 1991. He was first elected president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in 2010. He won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer in 2008 based predominantly on that blog, which he has also used for several charity drives. He has written several novels (Old Man's War series) include: Old Man's War (Nominated- Hugo Award for Best Novel 2006), The Ghost Brigades, The Last Colony (Nominated- Hugo Award for Best Novel 2008), Zoe's Tale, The Human Division, and The End of All Things. He has written other novels include: Agent to the Stars, The Android's Dream, Redshirts (Won- Hugo Award for Best Novel 2013, Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel 2013), Lock In, and The Collapsing Empire.
