He served as the 31st Governor of North Dakota from 2000 to 2010. He served as the president of the nation's only state-owned bank, the Bank of North Dakota, from 1993 to 2000. He earned a BA degree from Dartmouth College. He earned an MBA degree from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He married Mikey L. Hoeven in 1983. They have two children.
