Joan Ann Plowright, commonly known as Dame Joan Plowright was born in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, England. She is an English actress whose career has spanned over six decades. She studied at Scunthorpe Grammar School and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Her role in several films include: Time Without Pity, The Entertainer (Nominated- BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles), Three Sisters, Equus (Nominated- BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role), Revolution, Drowning by Numbers, Avalon, Enchanted April (Won- Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, Nominations- Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress), The Scarlet Letter, Surviving Picasso, Tea with Mussolini, Global Heresy, I Am David, Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and Knife Edge.
