Joachim du Bellay was born in Liré, Anjou, France. He was a French poet and critic. He was a member of the Pléiade. He studied law at the University of Poitiers. He published The Antiquities of Rome , the Various Rustic Games and the Regrets, from which are derived the famous sonnets "France, mother of the Arts" and " Happy who like Ulysses, a beautiful journey ".
