Ivan Doig was born in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, USA. He was an American author and novelist, widely known for his sixteen fiction and non-fiction books. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He earned his Ph.D. in American history from the University of Washington.
