Hugo Ball was born in Pirmasens, Germany. He was a German author, poet and one of the leading Dada artists. He was a pioneer in the development of sound poetry. He studied sociology and philosophy at the universities of Munich and Heidelberg, and went to Berlin to become a theatrical producer and an actor. He published one of his earliest works, a deliberately nonsensical poem titled "Karawane," in 1916. He wrote a 1927 biography of the acclaimed German poet Hermann Hesse. He wrote several books include: Flametti(novel), Flight Out of Time(memoir), Tenderenda der Phantast, Die Flucht aus der Zeit, Ball and Hammer, Critique of the German Intelligentsia, and Seven Sound Poems.
