Henry Carpenter Longhurst was born in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. He was a British golf writer and commentator. For 45 years, he was golfing correspondent of the Sunday Times. In 1943, he was elected at a by-election as Conservative MP for Acton in West London, but lost the seat at the 1945 general election. He was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame and will be inducted in September 2017. He played for Cambridge University Golf Club from 1928 to 1931 and was captain in 1931. From the late 1950s to the end of his life, he was BBC Television's senior golf commentator. He wrote several books include: How to Get Started in Golf, Never on Weekdays, My Life and Soft Times, and The Piccadilly World of Golf 1972.
