Henry Havelock Ellis, known as Havelock Ellis was born in Croydon, Surrey, England. He was an English physician, Psychologist and writer who studied human sexuality. He was co-author of the first medical textbook in English on homosexuality in 1897, and also published works on a variety of sexual practices and inclinations, as well as transgender psychology. He studied at St Thomas's Hospital Medical School now part of King's College London, but never had a regular medical practice. He wrote several books include: The criminal, The new spirit, Man and Woman, Studies in the psychology of sex, Sexual Inversion(with J.A. Symonds), Sexual selection in man, The soul of Spain, The world of dreams, The dance of life, The love rights of women, Psychology of Sex, and Sex and Marriage.
