Gordon Rupert Dickson was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He was a Canadian-born American science fiction writer. He was inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2000. He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1937. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota, in 1948. He published more than 80 novels and some 200 short stories. Among Dickson’s best-known science-fiction works were Dorsai!, Soldier, Ask Not(won Hugo Award for best short story), and Tactics of Mistake. He also excelled in the fantasy genre; his 1976 novel The Dragon and the George won the British Fantasy Society’s August Derleth Award. He is probably most famous for his Childe Cycle and the Dragon Knight series. He won three Hugo awards and one Nebula award.
