Ginger Rogers was born in Independence, Missouri, USA. She was an American actress, dancer, and singer. She is known for her performances in films and RKO's musical films in which she was partnered with Fred Astaire. After winning a dance contest that launched a successful vaudeville career, she gained recognition as a Broadway actress for her debut stage role in Girl Crazy. Her first successful film role was a supporting role in 42nd Street. Throughout the 1930s, she made ten films with Fred Astaire, among which were some of her biggest successes, such as Swing Time and Top Hat. Her performance in Kitty Foyle won her the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her role in other films include: Flying Down to Rio, The Gay Divorcee, Roberta, Stage Door, Vivacious Lady, and Roxie Hart.
