George Washington Cable was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. He was an American novelist. He has been called "the most important southern artist working in the late 19th century, as well as the first modern southern writer." He also wrote articles critical of contemporary society. He wrote several novels include: The Grandissimes, Madame Delphine, Famous Adventures And Prison Escapes of the Civil War, Strong Hearts, The Cavalier, Bylow Hill, Gideon's Band, The Flower of The Chapdelaines, and Loves of Louisiana.
