Flora Lewis was born in Los Angeles, California, USA. She was an American journalist. She earned a BA from the University of California at Los Angeles. She was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa and received her master's degree from Columbia University's School of Journalism in 1942. In 1942, she joined with The Associated Press in New York and Washington. From 1956 to 1966 she was a reporter for The Washington Post, where her work landed her on the master list of Nixon political opponents. In 1972 The New York Times appointed her foreign and diplomatic correspondent. She received many awards for her journalism including for distinguished diplomatic reporting from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
