David James Bryant was born in Clevedon, North Somerset, England. He is a former three-time World singles bowls champion and also a three-time World indoors singles champion. In addition to his world titles, he won the Commonwealth Games singles bowls championship on 4 occasions: 1962, 1970, 1974 and 1978. In 1980 he was awarded the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, again for services to bowls.
