Charles John Huffam Dickens was born in Landport, Hampshire, England. He was an English social critic, novelist, playwright and writer. He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity. Dickens published more than a dozen major novels, a large number of short stories, including a number of Christmas-themed stories, a handful of plays, and several non-fiction books.
