Joel Chandler Harris was born in Eatonton, Georgia, USA. He was an American journalist and fiction writer best known for his collection of Uncle Remus stories. He joined the staff of the Savannah Daily News in 1871. He spent most of his adult life in Atlanta working as an associate editor at the Atlanta Constitution from 1890-1901. Harris and his son Julian founded Uncle Remus's Magazine in 1907. He wrote several books include: Uncle Remus: His Songs and His Sayings, Nights with Uncle Remus, Balaam and His Master, On the Plantation, Mr. Rabbit at Home, Aaron in the Wildwoods, Plantation Pageants, A Little Union Scout, and Seven Tales of Uncle Remus.
