He was involved in antiwar activism during the Vietnam War. He worked as a spiritual advisor to President Barack Obama. He has written several books include: Agenda for Biblical people, The call to conversion, The Soul of Politics, God's Politics, The Great Awakening, Rediscovering Values, On God's Side, and America's Original Sin. In 1995, he received the Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award. He was awarded the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience award in 2000.
