John Hugh MacLennan was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was a Canadian author, essayist, novelist and professor of English at McGill University from 1951-1963. He studied at Dalhousie University and the University of Oxford. He earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1935.
