David Ignatow was born in Brooklyn, USA. He was an American poet. He began his professional career as a businessman. He was president of the Poetry Society of America from 1980 to 1984. He received the William Carlos Williams Award of the Poetry Society of America. He taught at the University of Kentucky, the University of Kansas, New York University, and Columbia University. He worked as an editor of American Poetry Review, Chelsea Magazine, and as poetry editor of The Nation.
