Elizabeth R. Schwartz was born in Riverdale, Illinois, USA. She was an American athlete and winner of the first Olympic 100 m for women. She was only 16 years old when she ran a world-record time of 12.2 seconds and won the 100-meter at the Amsterdam 1928 Olympic Games, the first Olympiad in which women were allowed to compete in track and field. She also won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter. In Berlin in 1936, Robinson competed on the relay for her second gold medal.
