L. John Doerr was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He is an American venture capitalist at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers in Menlo Park, California. He earned a BS degree and an MS degree in Electrical Engineering both from Rice University. He earned an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in 1976. He joined Intel Corporation in 1974 just as the firm was developing the 8080 8-bit microprocessor.
