Jacques Marie Émile Lacan was born in Paris, France. He was a French psychoanalyst and psychiatrist who has been called "the most controversial psycho-analyst since Freud". His ideas had a significant impact on post-structuralism, critical theory, linguistics, 20th-century French philosophy, film theory and clinical psychoanalysis. He wrote several books include: The Language of the Self, My teaching, The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis, On feminine sexuality, The Ego in Freud's Theory and in the Technique of Psychoanalysis, and The Ethics of Psychoanalysis 1959-1960.
