Jerome David "J.D." Salinger was born in New York City, New York, USA. He was an American writer who is known for his widely-read novel, The Catcher in the Rye. He studied at New York University, Ursinus College, and Columbia University. He wrote several short stories include: Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters; and Seymour, and Three Early Stories.
