Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin was born in Lauffen am Neckar, Germany. He was a German poet, commonly associated with the artistic movement known as Romanticism. He was also an important thinker in the development of German Idealism, particularly his early association with and philosophical influence on his seminary roommates and fellow Swabians Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling. He attended the University of Jena, where he interacted with Fichte and Novalis, before resuming his career as a tutor. He wrote several books include: Hyperion (novel), Hymns and fragments (poetry), and Selected poems of Friedrich Hölderlin.
