Jean Rhys was born in Roseau, Dominica. She was a Dominican novelist and short story writer who was born and grew up in the Caribbean island of Dominica, though she was mainly resident in England from the age of 16. She studied at Perse School for Girls in Cambridge, and Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She wrote several novels include: Postures, After Leaving Mr. Mackenzie, Voyage in the Dark, Good Morning, Midnight, and Wide Sargasso Sea. She wrote several short stories include: The Left Bank and Other Stories, Tigers Are Better-Looking, Sleep It Off Lady, Tales of the Wide Caribbean, and Let Them Call it Jazz and Other Stories.
